Hiking weeks in El Refugio

Hiking on Tenerife is a particular dream for all tose who are interested in flora and fauna.
The unique location of the Canary Islands and the special topographical situation of Tenerife makes it possible to spend unforgetable and impressing hiking holidays. We find 5 climatic zones on a small expanse: From desert areas through areas of the endemic plants, from the subtropical regions of the laurel regions through the pine tree forests, and finally the alpinic region and mount Teide area. All this you can recover on Tenerife.

Our guided tours and prices:

1. Roque Imoque: 35€

Time of way: 3 – 4 h – Ascension: 400 Hm – Descension: 400Hm – Length: 10 km

This hike goes through an anciant supply line round mount „Roque Imoque“, the Matterhorn in the south of Tenerife. We cross barranco del rey, the kings canyon. Sukulentes and cactusses line our pass. Impressive views on the south coast motivate us to shoot unforgettable holiday snaps.

2. Sombrero: 35€

Time of way: 4h – Ascension: 400 Hm – Descension:400 Hm – Length: 7 Km

We start this hike on a hight of about 2000 meters above Vilaflor, the higest located village in Spain that is inhabited. Here the more thinly growing air makes itself noticeable. Our destination is the edge of the crater of the cañadas del Teide on 2400 meters. From here we do have the probably most beautiful and most imposive gaze on the mount Teide, Spain´s highest mountain. We do an excursion to mount “Sombrero de Chasna”. Majestic is from here above the view onto Vilaflor and the south peak of the island. The absolutely silence and the wind that blows through the jaw-pines makes this hike unforgettable.

3. Montaña Blanca:40€

Time of way: 3 h –Ascension: 200 Hm – Descension: 200 Hm – Length: 8 Km

In contrast to the other hikes here on Tenerife, a completely different landscape receives us this time. We find an imprssive volcanic and lavalandscape of the Teide national park. As if we were on another planet we look a part of the genesis  here on 2200 meters. Differet layers of lava, certificates of millenia continuoing always recurrent eruptions shape the “Cañadas”.
The hike of today leads us over beige pumice to the visitors center “El Portillo”. In contrast to the light colored underground are the so called totally dark Teide eggs. Here are flowering in may and june in addition to the teide broom the strangely looking „Tajinaste“ and  the Teide violet,that is the under conservation.

4. From Parador to Paisaje Lunar: 40€

Time of way: 5 h – Ascension: 250 Hm – Descension: 600 Hm – Length: 12 Km

Our way leads us through the cañadas over the Ucanca path go by Guajara, 2700 hm. We pass black volcanic ashes and walk further downward in direction of the pine forest. Finally we reach the white moonlandscape, „Paisaje Lunar“, with it`s strange rock formations.

5. Taucho: 35€

Time of way: 4 h – Ascension: 250 Hm – Descension: 250 Hm – Length: 9 Km

We start on a hight of about 1000 meters in a small village near by the township Taucho. Our path leads us on a treck through wine and potatoe plantations eastward. From here the sea seems to be very nearby and we see the neighbouring island La Gomera, depending on the weather conditions also the smallest of the canary islands, El Hierro. Then we reach the pine forest with very old tree stock. Finally we cross the devils canyon, the „Barranco del Infierno“. This has not without a reason this dramtic name. We have a spektacular view into the canyon.

6. Masca: incl. boat trip 49 €

Time of way: 4h – Ascension: 600 Hm - Length: 4,5km

From Los Gigantes harbour we take a boat to the beach of Masca. We are passing by the impressive rock walls , the „giants“. From there we walk up the wild romantic canyon into the pituresque village Masca.
Unique is the subtropical variaty of plants, that we find here.

7. Pico del Teide, up to the peak: incl. cable railwy and peak permit 80 €

Time of way: 5 h – Ascension: 1.400 Hm – Descension: 200 Hm – Length: 12 Km

An unforgettable experience is for sure the track up the peak of mount Teide on 3.817 meters. From here we have a very impressive sight on the whole island of Tenerife and if the weather makes it possible until Africa. Also still today the peak is surrounded by more or less strong sulfur clouds. In the end the volcan is only sleeping.
